Following in the footsteps of many great sculptors through history, it was our turn to render slow, flowing cloth in a hard, unyielding material. Muholi’s monumental sculpture required the simulation of soft fabric in a rigid medium all worked by hand to achieve a naturalistic textile quality at sculptural scale. Finished in a consistent matte white, the cementitious robes form the visual counterpoint to the dark bronze face and hands.
